For example, if I like something that may seem bizarre to traditional whiskey drinkers, such as a peated rye, I let my ranking show that. I assessed color, nose, palate, finish and weighed the uniqueness of a product in its category. Some tastings were public, such as my YouTube reviews, while others were done privately or in a spirits competition. However, there are a couple late 2020 releases in this mix. ![]() I had to taste them for the first time in 2021, which means most of these were mostly released in 2021. On January 5, on a YouTube Livestream, I will announce the rankings and blind taste the Top 10 to choose the No. ![]() The list below represents the whiskeys that made my Top 100. But that is why we are completing this list in January. I am glad we did, because we raised more than $3.4 million for tornado victims. My team and I put our heart and soul into the Kentucky Bourbon Benefit. Thus, I thought a list of 100 makes a stronger representation of the quality in the American whiskey space than 25, which would leave out many worthy products. And as individuals, we all have our own palates. In other words, outside the Top 15, the rankings are super close for me. 25 might not even make someone else’s list. Most categories are well represented, but rye and bourbons make up the bulk. Well, this list encompasses all types of American whiskey: Blends of Straights, Ryes, Bourbons, Single Malts, etc. This list represents what I like, and I am a single person, so there will be no votes. A vote is taken and preferential tastes decide. For example, when scoring is used, I’ve been in panels that had two 96s. Panels are better for determining Best in Class. I also feel a ranking system is more accurate for a single critic to choose a whiskey of the year. This year was also the start of my spirits competition - The American Spirits Council of Tasters - and I wanted my rankings to be different than the ASCOT Awards. And with the massive number of whiskeys I tasted this year, I saw an opportunity to begin my Top 100. I love reading the polls and listening to people debate about who should be No. How old is the oldest pair of shoes in your closet? How long have you been with Goose Island? ![]() For that purpose, the fit-out had to be partly removed and that is when the fraud was confirmed. Since the fit-out was already fully installed the government could not inspect anything. My hosts told me about an architect who was imprisoned because he didn’t let the contractor implement the – expensive – earthquake measures his client had paid for and that were required by the government rules. I learned just how strict, during a working visit to Japan. The requirements and inspection rules are strict. By splitting the base building and fit-out it is much easier, for example, when changing the fit-out to check if the base building is still sufficiently earthquake-resistant or should be improved according to the latest findings in earthquake-resistant measures. As a result regularly new insights arise how a structure can be made the most earthquake-resistant. In other words, Japan is regularly hit by major earthquakes. Wikipedia reports: Japan is a volcanic island arc and is among the most seismically active regions in the world. In Japan, this approach already leads to particularly good results and the only occasional discovery that there is something wrong. And if you want to change the fit-out you can do so without damaging the base building. The municipality is not really interested in your bathroom and kitchen, but very much in your safety! Realize both steps in succession and you will never have to adapt the base building again, unless of course you really need a serious extension to your home. ![]() Only after professional inspection and licensing of this base building you start work on the inside, with a lay out, technical installations, kitchen and bathroom (fit-out) and of course the finishing of floors, walls and ceilings. First, you create the structure with roof and façade. ![]() The solution to this dilemma is quite simple: split the building process and licensing in two steps. How much extra damage, expenses and loss of time will you face if you need access to the base building after completion for monitoring, inspections or repairs? Simple solution How do you check that all structural measures have been taken and meet the requirements? Especially when the inside of the base building is already neatly hidden behind stucco, panelling and technical installations. Being a layman, this is exactly the part of the building that you know least about. Are you the owner and occupier then you have to deal directly with this base building. For it is this base building that is being affected by earthquakes. The key here is the safety of the structure, including the quality of the façade and roof, plus inspecting their safety. When I was a little boy living in the immediate vicinity of the current Langelo field in North Drenthe our refrigerator shook regularly in the night, but not as vehemently as is happening now! How can you make sure that your home and other buildings will become safe again? Even though there is no legislation yet that buildings have to meet and contractors do not really know what to do exactly. The quakes grow in intensity, just like the damage caused and the feeling of insecurity. What do you think about this plan? Unsafe feelingĮarthquakes caused by gas production have been a part of common life in Groningen for many years now. That’s what I strive for in your interest and that of the rest of the Netherlands. ![]() In Japan they have applied this principle consequently for many years. A principle that can save you a lot of money and hassle in the future. Unfortunately they’re all overlooking one very important basic principle. A reality with big question marks and consequences, because can you still live safely in your home? No you can’t, not without taking action! Government and builders are busy discussing how to tackle these problems, as demonstrated during a recent conference in Groningen. When you live in Groningen, then this is your daily reality. Cracks in the walls and subsiding façades because of earthquakes. ![]() I like irons idea of parking lots better, as I am pretty much no way going to let someone know where I live. ![]() Always meet during the day, never at night. Public parks with many people are also a good choice. PLenty of witnesses but you aren't actually inside an establishment making your transaction. The only problem is that the user could damage the computer within that 30 days, and claim you are liable, but that is a rare occurrence, normally people don't want to break their shiny new $900 investment.Īs for a meeting place, retail marketplace parking-lots work well. Make sure this is stated on the bill-of-sale (ALWAYS have a bill-of-sale, make 2 copies, both of you sign them and you both keep a copy.) If the buyer understand these circumstances, and has a signed document to prove it, it will normally provide enough peace-of-mind that they won't need to see it plugged in and running. State that this warranty covers hardware defects only, and that the computer functions as described in the ad. Especially with a desktop computer, people don't expect to be able to test it before they buy it, you don't take the computer out of the box at Wal-Mart and plug it in to make sure it works, you buy it on the liberty and assumption that everything is okay, and if it isn't, you take it back and exchange it or get a refund, this is a similar situation.Īlways sell any electronic device with a 30-day warranty minimum. I've sold dozens of desktops and laptops on craigslist, and I've not had one of them step into my home. If you paid $800 for all the parts then you will not get much more for it than this unless of course the buyer doesnt know how to build a computer and you happen to have the best price around for the parts in a prebuilt system. never do business alone and always have backup. avoid the blatant scammers who ask you to fill forms out or who say they will send someone around for the item and payment later. as long as you do not post your own information up on craigslist it really isnt such a bad place. I've sold many things out of the house on craigslist. if you do not feel secure meeting like this then have a friend or family member present with you. ![]() if they are most certainly interested then you can then give them an address. Generally the safe way to deal on craigslist is to ask them to provide their phone number and then you call them to discuss. Regardless of your personal preferences you will very likely need to have the buyer come to your house or the house of someone you know to test and pick up the computer. Should I change what different options are available? I am selling the desktop + keyboard and mouse (opened but new) for ~$900 I will include options to add my used 1080p monitor+ new dvi-to-hdmi adapter+ new cheap ~$3 hdmi cable for ~$70 add 120gb ssd (new) for ~$90 and possibly other upgrades/downgrades for reasonable additional costs too. I have transport via a car.Īnyone have any experiences/advice on where/how to sell large electronics? IMO, a public area with a power socket where it is ok to use a full desktop would be the best (but where is this?).Īny response will be appreciated greatly. I would prefer not to go into a strangers house, but if it is safe enough, I may consider it as the final option. I have sold a laptop in a coffee shop before, but I'm not very sure if it is ok to bring such a big thing(+boxes+monitor to test) into mcdonalds (is it)? I definitely don't want the buyer to know my home location or step into my home. I just don't know how to let a buyer actually test it. I'm neither in a rush nor desperate to sell, as I would otherwise keep it as my own and not build another system. I'm planning to list it on craigslist for ~$975 CDN, aiming for ~$900 (no 12% tax) after negotiations (would be one of the best deals on my craigslist). It was built less than a month ago (I just tested it and kept it in brand new condition), and I want to try another build. I built a gaming pc, and I want to sell it again. The boss fight is in an arena in a lair, closed off from the rest of the map, hidden behind a secret passage. The next Pale Ore requires defeating a boss before you can enter the room in which this Pale Ore is located. ![]() Having all three will make the platforming part a lot easier. ![]() Monarch Wings and Crystal Heart will make this journey a lot easier, but the Mantis Claw is the only one that you actually can’t get this Pale Ore without. Monarch wings are the double jump, and you need Crystal Heart to reach it after the Broken Vessel boss fight in the Ancient Basin.Ĭrystal Heart allows you to fly horizontally away from the wall and requires the Mantis Claw and dash to acquire in Crystal Peak. The Mantis Claw allows you to climb up the walls by jumping and grants you the ability to slide down the walls. I recommend that you go after this one after acquiring the Mantis Claw, Monarch Wings, and Crystal Heart. This Pale Ore is in Crystal Peak at the top at the Hallownest’s Crown at the statue of Radiance. You can now get your third Nail upgrade for 2000 Geo giving you the Coiled Nail that deals 17 damage. Play defensively as they can deal a lot of damage when there are two of them. You can stay close to them to prevent them from spitting the orange blobs and just dodge their melee attack. With this third Pale Ore, you can upgrade your Nail again, but you have to defeat the two Lesser Mawleks guarding it. Third Pale Ore is in Ancient Basin, west of the tram station. If you rescue thirty-one grubs, he will give you one Pale Ore instead. The Grubfather, in most cases, gives you only Geo. You might already have thirty-one Grubs, but I hope the map helps if you don’t! Grubs will always say “…Home…”, but Mimic Grubs will say “…Kill…” and similar things. You can check if a Grub is a true Grub by Dream Nailing the Jar. Some are Grub Mimics, so be careful as they transform and become hostile. Grubs are small worms trapped in jars all over the map, and there are forty-six of them in Hallownest. You need to visit him after rescuing thirty-one Grubs. ![]() He is located in the Grubhome, one of the first places you’ll come across, on the upper left side of the Forgotten Crossroads just straight left from the well. Second Pale Ore, a relatively difficult one to acquire, is gifted by the Grubfather in the Forgotten Crossroads. You will get the Channelled Nail that deals 13 damage for reference, the Nail that you started with does 5 damage. I highly recommend taking the time to travel back and doing so as it will help you greatly. ![]() You can get your second Nail upgrade from the Nailsmith with this Pale Ore and 800 Geo. The easiest way to get your first Pale Ore is by acquiring 300 Essence with the Dream Nail and visiting Seer in Resting Grounds. You need two for your second Nail upgrade and three for your third Nail upgrade, so this is only the beginning.
![]() The Initiates program is similarly a mess right now. I can still access the database, Arno's gear and heat maps to show how other players tackled tough missions, but they're not terribly useful. Ubisoft says that it is working on fixes for this and similar problems, but until then, the app is useless to me. I have been unable to do so, as my Nomad Brotherhood menu is grayed out and inaccessible. In fact, you have to do this at least once to even get past the tutorial. One of the key features of the app (like the Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag app before it) is the ability to recruit assassins into the Nomad Brotherhood and send them out on various missions for fun and profit. In practice, though, it doesn't work for many players. In theory, it offers a number of simple glyph puzzles that, when solved, give you access to special rewards in the main game. The Assassin's Creed Unity app is available for free on both iOS and Android, so if you have the game and a smartphone or tablet, it's worth a download. Divert yourself for a little while, and then get back to the meat and potatoes of the experience. It's telling that perhaps the best thing about it is that it grants you useful rewards for the single-player campaign. For Heist missions, where stealth is tied to your reward, this is even more vital.Īssassin's Creed Unity's multiplayer is chaotic with strangers, fun with friends, very similar to the rest of the game and not wholly necessary if you can't or don't want to do it. While I couldn't go a single mission without someone (usually me) wandering right into an eagle-eyed guard's path in a game with strangers, a friend or two and a microphone was all it took to set things right. Their avatars will even show up in your safe houses when you're not playing together.Ĭommunicating with friends turns missions from citywide brawls into tightly coordinated stealth maneuvers. Unity's multiplayer tools are robust, and let you start a Social Club so that you and your friends can adventure together on a whim. There is one very easy way to make Assassin's Creed Unity's cooperative missions about 10 times more fun, and that's to play with friends. If playing with strangers is impossible now, it may not get much better later. ![]() What's clear, however, is that Unity is a brand-new game, and this is likely as populous as the servers are going to get. It's hard to say whether these players left because of Unity's server problems (which, to be clear, does not excuse Ubisoft's having server problems in the first place) or because they were bored with the mission parameters. In the span of a 15-minute mission, I had at least five other players join and quit, leaving me to tackle a mission meant for multiple people all by myself. For the most part, players would jump in, and jump out 2 seconds later. I first jumped into the cooperative missions in public lobbies, and played with anyone who came my way. If you go off and do your own thing, you don't just endanger yourself you endanger the whole mission. The trouble with cooperative games is that, unlike their competitive (even team-based) brethren, communication is key. My qualm with them is that unless you play them under very specific circumstances, they're not much fun. They're regular old Assassin's Creed missions, just on a bigger scale. In my experience, the missions are neither outstanding nor terrible. The missions can be tense and fun, but the rewards never feel quite commensurate with the effort, especially since money is easy to come by elsewhere. The twist is that the more you blow your cover, the less money you'll receive at the end. The objective for you and your cohorts is to infiltrate a heavily guarded facility, acquire an object and get back out. Rather than coveted Sync Points (which help upgrade your character), heists earn you lots of money, and nothing but. Missions are the usual Assassin's Creed fare - tail this person, assassinate that one, find a useful object in a fortified location - but they take place over much larger areas and throw way more enemies at you. ![]() Cooperative missions are exactly what they sound like: You can team up with up to four friends and go through a side quest, complete with cutscenes, new characters and a variety of objectives. |
